If you follow our blog, you’ll know that every few months I post some before and after photos of different parts of our home as we add the final touches. In this post, I’m super excited to be sharing some photos of my own bedroom with you. 🙂
Unfortunately I could only find two ‘before’ photos of this room but I suspect that the clutter and poor lighting made it nearly impossible to take enough photos before the renovation. Having said that, I think these photos will still give you a good idea of the transformation that this room underwent. Here goes…
Huge difference, right? The amazing thing is that we didn’t do anything major to change the room – the new floors and fresh white paint made all the difference!
I went ahead and did a full photo shoot of my room – hope you enjoy…
As you can see above, I’ve invested in some beautiful oak wall hooks – The Dots by Muuto. I bought them from Entrepo more than a year ago (I’m not sure where you can find some in South Africa now but if anyone knows, please let us know in the comments!). All of the scarves are from Country Road, as is the brown leather bag. I got the beige shopper bag from Jane Sews – another great South African online store.
In the ‘before’ photos, this room seems really dark but in reality, there is actually a lot of natural light here. The white paint and light coloured floors not only appear cleaner, but really maximise the light coming into the room.
You may recognise the triangular lamp above – that and my pallet bed were some of the first items we made for our home. You can find the lamp in our online store and the African Merino sheep skin, I am excited to say, will also be available soon!
I have white blinds in front of my window but I like to pull them up allow the afternoon sun to come into my room – so lovely!
The canvas bucket makes a great laundry basket and can be found here. You can also find the contemporary clothing rail in our online shop – perfect for this room, which has no built-in cupboards.
What I love about my room is the openness – there are no bulky cupboards, heavy desks or bed bases. It makes for a really lovely space. The only problem is those small, loose items that would clutter up my space if I didn’t put them away. That is why I use these simple storage boxes – I think they add a natural look to my room, while keeping everything tidy by giving me some extra storage space.
The small canvas bucket above makes a great waste paper bin – see it here. Then there’s our white top trestle desk, which I have paired with an adjustable retro-style stool that I just love. My cork pin board is always handy. I have added to it some photos, some of Tatjana Buisson’s post cards (see them here), some of Seven Swans’ gift tags (I just love them with this look) and our minimalist calendar.
I have mentioned before how I love the use of driftwood. We picked this one up on a beach in PE and brought it with us – it is actually one of my favourite things in this room!
On the other side of my desk, is this cute little bamboo radio from Superbalist (which I don’t use very often but it works perfectly) and a print by one of my favourite artists, Marc Johns. I also couldn’t resist this stunning Country Road frame!
On the right is one of my favourite pieces in our entire home – my Play Play unit from DeSteyl. It provides me with some great storage space and fits beautifully into my room. On top of it is my dodecahedral terrarium from Cinderwood – another brand that I love. Zana’s YAY banner also gets a prominent spot in my room.
I just love these air plants – let’s just say it is the perfect kind of plant for people like me. 🙂
Hope you enjoyed that! As always, you can let me know your thoughts in the comments and if you have any questions, I am always happy to answer!
